Artificial Conscience: On AI, Accountability, and Resolving Disagreement
The question of who is accountable for the normative implications of AI in healthcare is one that has received much attention, but without a definitive answer or a general consensus, healthcare professionals may be left wondering what their role is in interacting with AI in the delivery of care. As conscientious professionals, physicians, for example, often possess the skills to resolve disagreements among themselves in offering optimal care to patients, but is this possible in an AI-based healthcare landscape? What skills are needed in the future to resolve disagreements that might arise between AI and physicians? Ethical and professionalism issues are to be discussed in this presentation that bear on these questions.
