In Love, the upcoming film starring George Clooney and Annette Bening, directed by Paul Weitz, is based on Amy Bloom’s memoir In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss. The story explores Bloom’s emotional journey as she supports her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, in his decision to travel to Switzerland for assisted death an act often associated with what is termed “suicide tourism.”

While dark tourism involves visiting historical sites of tragedy (like Chernobyl or Auschwitz) to learn or reflect, suicide tourism refers to traveling to jurisdictions where assisted dying is legal, allowing terminally ill patients to end their lives with dignity and peace.
