A 54 year old man from New Hampshire received a genetically modified pig kidney transplant on June, 14 at Massachusetts General Hospital. The surgery is part of experimental xenotransplant research aimed to determine whether animal organs might be viable solutions one day, addressing severe shortage of human donor kidneys.
