A European fertility organization, ESHRE, is calling for the first Europe-wide limit on how many families a single sperm or egg donor can contribute to, proposing an initial cap of 50 families. The push comes amid growing accounts of donor-conceived people discovering dozens or even hundreds of half-siblings, raising concerns about donor anonymity in the age of consumer DNA testing, the emotional impact on donor-conceived individuals, and rare cases in which genetic conditions are passed to many offspring.
