NEW WORLD DISORDER – BIOETHICS AND THE MORAL CASE FOR POST-NATIONALISM
ABSTRACT
This paper explores the ethical implications of emerging biotechnologies in a post-national world where traditional! state sovereignty is increasingly fragmented. We examine the moral obligations for researchers, institutions, and policymakers to develop governance frameworks that transcend national boundaries. The study highlights case studies in gene editing, neurotechnology, and global health equity, proposing a collaborative model for ethical oversight that priorities human rights, justice, and shared responsibility across borders.

Dr. James J. Hughes is the Executive Director of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies (IEET), learn more here. He is a bioethicist, sociologist, and author of Citizen Cyborg and Cyborg Buddha. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago, and has taught bioethics, health policy, and future studies.
His work focuses on democratic transhumanism, radical human enhancement, and the political implications of emerging technologies.
